Did you guys know you can make a Brass Monkey two ways?! Neither did I until recently. Tomorrow is National Beer Lovers Day so I wanted to share one of my fav drinks with you guys… a Brass Monkey. I love them and they’re made with beer so it’s perfect. But, wait! There’s more… while doing a little research, I found out there’s a cocktail called a Brass Monkey, too!
So here it is, Brass Monkey two ways-
Let’s start with the cocktail version…
You’ll need vodka, dark rum, orange juice, and lemons. Cherries and orange slices for garnish, too…but those are optional.
(Scroll down to see the full recipe!)
Shake all the ingredients together with ice in a cocktail shaker and pour into a glass. I added more ice because I like a lot, but the amount of ice you need is based solely on preference.
I’m not gonna lie, this cocktail packs a pretty good punch… which I happen to like, but it might not be for everyone. It’s kind of like a screwdriver, but the rum and lemon juice give it a little extra kick. You could always add more orange juice if you think the liquor flavor is too strong.
Now, the second way to make a Brass Monkey…
I call this one the OG Brass Monkey. OG as in Original Gangsta. I dunno, guys, I just feel real hood when I’m drinking one of these bad boys. Please note: I am in no way “hood” or gangsta… I mean, I grew up in a little-ish town in Northern Utah. I think that’s probably the farthest from hood you can actually get. I have listened to a few Dr. Dre songs once or twice, though, so it’s fine. It’s juuuust fine.
To make a Brass Monkey this way, you can use any wheat beer. I prefer to use these 40 0z malt liquors.
I didn’t choose the thug life, guys.
These ones are pretty simple. Drink a little bit of the malt liquor so there’s room for orange juice. Add a little juice from a lemon and BAM! You’ve got yourself a Brass Monkey!
If you’re using a beer other than a 40, simply pour the ingredients into a glass.
Now, just turn on some gansta rap if you wanna and enjoy!
